Singles

After re-watching the Seattle based movie "Singles" and its grunge centric styles my brain automatically when to Marc Jacobs' infamous collection for Perry Ellis in 1992. Although he was subsequently fired for it, the collection became one of the most remembered collections in recent fashion history. Jacobs take on the grunge style was (in my opinion) based on the fact that everyone could dress that way, but everyone couldn't dress that way in Marc Jacobs without a high fashion budget. He put silk "plaid" button downs and cashmere shrunken sweaters on the runway when the real kids had to thrift them. The fact the he just got up and showed the fashion world what was actually going on in the everyday world was remarkable. "He turns the high to low, and then sells it at a high price."
